It’s almost that time of the year, pollen will begin to swirl as plants wake up from a long winter nap. In our area trees pollinate first, from February through May, grasses follow May through June.
To stay ahead of the “season” ENT Center of Excellence recommends you start a combination of early medications and environmental control. Start taking allergy medications like antihistamines or nasal steroid sprays two weeks before your symptoms start. This will stabilize your immune system response before the high pollen load hits. Try to identify what triggers your symptoms.
ENT Center of Excellence has an amazing program and can identify the pollen you are allergic to. Pollen counts are typically highest in the mid-morning and early evening. On high pollen days try to limit your outdoor activities, keep your windows and doors closed, and use recirculation settings on your air conditioner to filter your indoor air. Shower and wash your hair before bed to remove pollen you have picked up throughout the day. Don’t hang laundry outside.
You can use a Neti Pot or saline spray to flush allergens out of your nose. If you feel like your brain is in a fog and your thinking is cloudy, you are exhausted and sleepy, you most likely are suffering from “Hay Fever/Seasonal Allergic Rhinitis.
Start your defense today, Spring is coming and we don’t want you to spend your days inside. Ask your primary care doctor for a referral to ENT Center of Excellence. Dr. Buxa and Dr. Bergstrom are taking New Patients now.
